1983 Mercedes W123 280E Manual For Sale £11,500 One Family Owned From New – Now Sold
The Car & Its History
The Mercedes W123 represents the best car they ever made, probably. Legendary longevity and reliability have meant these vehicles have lasted where many others haven’t.
This example is one of those long lasting examples, but with only 185,000 km showing and a complete service history including the original bill of sale in South Africa.
Built in East London South Africa means that the car comes with air conditioning, something that is missing from nearly all top spec W123s you find typically.
The car has also been in the same family since new, so this is the first time it has been available outside of them and it is now in the UK with all NOVA paperwork completed and ready to register.
The car has been through a UK MOT to reassure any prospective purchaser of the condition.
Exterior
Tha paintwork is in really good condition, finished in the attractive shade of Diamond Blue Metallic. There are no dents or any visible rust.
It also has its original Bundt wheels with the nice body colour matching wheel trim as Mercedes fitted at the time. The car is a 1983 model so features the facelifted front end and interior improvements.
Finished in Diamond Blue Metallic, this is a facelift W123 with the larger headlights and improved cabin.
Interior
The interior is finished in the contrasting tobacco colour leather trim which is in exceptional condition considering the mileage 185,000 km or 135,000 miles.
The seat bolsters are in good condition and the carpets and door cards are in nice condition too.
This car has one of the highest specifications you could order. Electric windows, electric sunroof, original working Becker stereo and air conditioning.
The original first aid kit and toolkit are present.
Engine & Running Gear
The 280E has the fuel injected 2,746 cc straight six engine and is the biggest and most powerful of the W123 variants. This engine was used in many models in the 1970s and 80s and is reliable and provides ample power and torque.
With the four speed manual gearbox the 182 bhp car can get to 60 in a little under 9 seconds and reach a top speed of 139 mph. Very impressive for the time, considering the model appeared in the late 70s.
the engine fires immediately and settle to a nice purr and pulls very strongly.
