New Beaulieu Lectures Cover 50 Years Of The National Motor Museum

With half a century of history itself the National Motor Museum looks back over those 50 years in a new series of lectures and a golden anniversary presentation.

With talks by racing drivers, motorcycle and plane adventurers, the guests are giving insights into different transport related subjects.

On the 24th of September the former Beaulieu Managing Director, Ken Robinson, will return to join the National Motor Museum Trust Chief Executive, Dr Jon Murden as they talk about the past and the future of what is the first permanent motor museum in the world.

Lord Montagu’s ambition was to expand and develop the Montagu Motor Museum into the National Motor Museum and Ken Robinson played a key part in delivering that vision. The 1972 creation of the museum was built to keep the collection safe for future generations, with a range of new buildings with a large amount of reworking to the site.

Ken will be bringing a selection of original photographs, film footage and a wealth of personal knowledge to tell the tale of the transformation.

Jon will be detailing the future of the National Motor Museum and the next 50 years. From how the museum interacts with its visitors to telling the story of motoring with the newly opened exhibit, The Story of Motoring in 50 Objects.

National Motor Museum, Bugatti Lecture

The 18th of November sees the famous Bugatti under the spotlight with award winning restorer and Bugatti enthusiast Richard Skinner hosts, So you think you know about Bugatti?

Richard will detail the Bugatti dynasty, covering not just the cars, but also the planes and trains the company produced. Giving insight into what is probably still the most revered motoring marques in the world.

You’re bound to learn something new with even the biggest fan coming away with new knowledge about the iconic French car manufacturer. 

Racing Driver & Pilot Roger Nathan Lecture

Roger Nathan might not be a household name like some others, but this champion driver and race car constructor has a fascinating past. he talks about his varied life with cars and even planes as a successful pilot and airline owner on the 15th of October.

After a decade of motor racing, Nathan held more lap records than any other driver and became the youngest driver ever to win the National British Autosport Championship before switching to another passion, flying. Later he became a gold bullion courier and gold miner along the way.

Roger’s adventures have taken him all over the world and you can hear all about them.

Have Plane, Will Travel. Colin Hales Lecture

Far flung adventures in a home-made aircraft. If this sounds like your thing, then tales Colin’s adventures on the 17th of December are not to be missed.

Colin’s tiny aircraft that he designed and built in his sheds and garages has taken him around the world and the epic story of his journey is to be told at the museum.

Breaking international barriers, Colin flew to parts of the world that such a small aircraft had never been to before. Meeting all sorts of people, seeing all manner of unusual things and gaining wealth of experience.

To hear how he survived the trip and how something is even possible, you’d better hear what he has to say.

Motorcycling Around The World, Steph Jeavons Lecture

The 21st of January sees Steph Jeavons tell the tale of her solo round the world adventure on her 250cc Honda CRF.

It’s not just the accomplishment of the circumnavigation, along the way Steph became the first person to ride on all seven continents and visited 54 countries over 4 years.

All of the museum talks start at 7:30pm and finish at 10pm and are held in the Lecture Theatre of the National Motor Museum’s Collections Centre.
