The Brabham BT52 Is Returning To Goodwood For The 80th Members’ Meeting

The legend that is the Brabham BT52 is to return to Goodwood for the 80th Members’ Meeting this April with an on track demonstration.

This is the first time the turbocharged Formula 1car has been to Goodwood since allegedly setting the first sub 1 minute lap time back in 1983. It was also the first turbocharged F1 car to win the drivers world championship.

Presented by Audrain Motorsport, the car will be lapping the circuit over the weekend of Saturday 15th and Sunday 16th April 2023 and reunited with its designer Gordon Murray and team manager Herbie Blash.

The Goodwood circuit closed to competitive racing back in 1966, it has continued to host its Members’ Meetings, the Goodwood Revival and teams and manufacturers to test their cars.

It was in 1983 that the Brabham Formula 1 team were testing the new BMW powered BT52 with Nelson Piquet at the wheel. Whilst there is no official record, the legend that accompanies this test is that the BT52 lapped the Goodwood circuit in under a minute. This is still the fastest lap time ever around the circuit.

Goodwood are celebrating the return of the Brabham BT52 and pay homage to “the greatest lap of Goodwood” as the meeting honours the Testing Years as part of the ongoing celebrations of Goodwood’s 75-year motorsport heritage.

If you want to see if they get close to that magic minute, then you can obtain tickets here.
