New book releases for September 2021. Jalopy Magazine selects the latest available books that we want to read.

Ford GT40 Anthology

This new compilation of articles and stories about the GT40 isn’t a hostory as such, but provides a wealth of new information told by those involved with the car.

The design and development through to racing at Le Mans and many well kept secrets that have now been unveiled.

One of the most interesting things is the chapter on John Wyer and his team JWAE as a GT40 builder. How it was structured and what the accounts were like, how much did it cost to get the cars to race at Le Mans and was it profitable?

There are even details on the Indy 4 cam engine that Ford once fitted during GT40 development.

There are some 500 photographs inside and a collection of many untold stories and historical information that hasn’t been previously published. It’s one that I want on my bookshelf.

To be published on 12 Nov. 2021, in good time for Christmas.

First Generation Hinckley Triumph

Triumph returned to motorcycling under the ownership of property developer John Bloor and a new factory in Hinckley, Leicestershire.

These early bikes are now attaining classic status and rightly so, I quite fancy owning one.
The early bikes span a period from 1991 to 2004. The Trophy, Daytona, Trident, Trident Sprint, Tiger, Speed Triple, Adventurer and Thunderbird were all designed and manufactured using a modular concept. Component sharing across the range of bikes limiting the range of parts needed and spares that need to be carried.

This book goes into the bikes produced their design and identifying common problems and how to sort them. A comprehensive maintenance guide is there to help you keep them on the road which includes all the tools needed and details of restoration, modifications and upgrades. Useful stuff.

The book covers both race cars and road cars beautifully presented in a limited edition book with a metal sleeve. It is expensive though.

James Bond's Aston Martin DB5

The Aston Martin DB5 is synonymous with James Bond having first appeared in Goldfinger in 1963, the film that is considered to have redefined action films forever.

This book spans that period and the 25th Bond film, No Time to Die. The DB5 playing quite an important role and EON productions and Aston Martin giving access to their archives to author Simon Hugo enabling him to present original artwork and film storyboards and photographs.

I’m keen to see how much detail is given to the carbon fibre BMW based replicas that really look good.

A large coffee table type book coming out just in time for the actual film, the delayed release date of course.
