Retromobile 2017; Paris
The final installment, this years show was the biggest yet and there is still more to share.
It isn’t just vehicles that make the show, it’s the collection of art, parts and wonderful displays that people make out of their stands. Such as this one of petrol pumps and advertising by Evariste Doublet and his daughter
He has a shop in Beuvillers, Calvados, which is view by appointment, I’m thinking of paying it a visit.
One of the other nice things about Retromobile is the artists area, a collection of original works, all with a motoring theme. There are a few famous names appearing from time to time and it truly is worth spending time to admire their work. However, it’s not good form to take photographs of it so I didn’t. A couple of general ones were ok though. It’s better to see it in person.
There are fabulous displays of all kinds, it’s hard to believe that this stuff is actually for sale. Some of the furniture is a work of art in itself.
There is a lot of memorabilia, from petrol pumps, to advertising and even a McDonalds sign, which I have to admit I rather liked.
It’s also good to meet some of the nice people who work on the stands and even nicer when you get recognised, the lovely Laura Monkman of Jaguar Classic with the brand new XKSS.
Fiskens always have a lovely display and this year was no different. The stunning yellow Countach LP400, the stunning early wedge shape really suiting the very 70s colour.
The Mechaniques stand had one of the show’s Ferrari Daytona’s which was under the careful eye of Anne-Sophie Vasiliu.
Speaking of Ferrari Daytona’s, the rather unusual colour of this one on the Fiskens stand. Any excuse to go back…
If you could afford one, then why not have one in a distinctive colour like this.
Something which Jalopy have had their eye on for a while is the Renault Safrane, this one on the Youngtimers stand was rather nice. Well, it was the Biturbo Baccara, which is rather rare, but not too expensive yet. Ordinary ones are spectacular value.
But, maybe I’m saving the best till last, but the Ford Gt Mk3 really was rather spectacular. JD Classics of Mayfair had the original New York show car, which might explain the left hand drive configuration, it was also Ford’s development car but was presented showing its stunning original metallic colour. The value was around £7 million…
All I can say is that you really should go, it gets better every year.
