The Reborn Alvis Car Company Produce The First Post-War Continuation Model

The first of the post-war Alvis continuation cars from the Alvis Car Company in Kenilworth, England. The Graber Super Coupé 3.0 litre is complete after a two year build process, delayed slightly of course.

This first brand new Graber is destined for Japan where another five cars will be going to new customers via the Japanese distributer, Meiji Sangyo.

The Graber Super Coupé is one of six new models in the Alvis Continuation Series. Each of these cars is built to a bespoke specification with a list of options that include air conditioning, not something you’d get originally.

Original drawings have been used and each car comes with the in house designed and manufactured in line six 3.0 litre or 4.3 litre engine. The chassis and engine blocks are new old stock and have been stored for many years after the factory in Coventry closed in 1967. All parts and the racking they were stored on were moved to Kenilworth and lay in waiting to be assembled into the new car you see here.

It’s not all old parts, the engines receive fuel injection, the compression ratio has been increased to 9.5:1 and the modern machining process means tolerances are tighter. These new 3.0 litre engine produces 172 bhp which is 42 bhp more than the 60s original. Torque has been increased too and is now up to a healthy 209 ft / lbs at 3750 rpm. 0 – 60 comes up in 8.9 seconds.

“Seeing the Graber Super Coupé leave the works at Kenilworth for the first time was a huge moment for all of us at The Alvis Car Company,” says managing director Alan Stote. “So much hard work has gone into producing it by our staff over the past two years, that it’s almost sad to see it leave.

“The all-aluminium bodywork looks stunning up close; the engine runs faultlessly and the handcrafted interior is both comfortable and stylish. As a complete package, this Graber serves as a reminder that our manufacturing processes, which haven’t changed at Alvis since the early 20^th century, still produce a product of the highest quality. And unlike so many continuation cars, we have ensured this can be enjoyed on the road.”

As the Graber Super Coupé has been road tested and shipped, the company are now working on the first Continuation Series Cabriolet. This also destined to go to the Far East in 2022 with another, the first Lancefield pre-war 4.3 litre.

If you want to buy one, they start at £295,000 for the pre-war Continuation Series cars with the Graber Super Coupé starting at £323,000.

By the time you read this that lucky new owner in Japan will be enjoying their new Alvis and will probably do so for many years too.
