Rare Jaguar Lynx Eventer XJ-S Shooting Brake Sells At Auction For £63k
- Lynx Eventer makes £63,000 at auction
- Number 11 of only 67 ever made and completely original, never restored.
- 5,343cc V12 engine
- Automatic transmission
£63,000 at auction might seem like a lot of money but the Lynx Eventer Shooting Brake based on the XJ-S coupe is rare, handcrafted and dare I say it practical.
These were a left field choice and quite an exclusive car when new. Lynx in their Hastings coachbuilding works converted 67 of the XJ-S models from new to each over’s individual specification back in the early 1980s.
The XJ-S was given a new roof, rear glass area, rear body panels. Internal modifications meant that the rear seats could move rearwards to allow for more space. The rear suspension was stiffened to cope with the additional weight and the fuel take was relocated.
This particular car was supplied by Appleyard of Harrogate in 17 September 1983, finished in Jaguar Racing Green and is totally original having never been restored. It’s covered less than 100 miles in the last 8 years.
“It’s rare for an Eventer to come to the market, but it’s even rarer when it’s as nice as this untouched example with such low mileage,” says Car & Classic Head of Editorial Chris Pollitt. “It could well be considered the ultimate find in the Jaguar XJ-S world.”
The Lynx Eventer has become a very desirable car turning an already very nice coupe into a practical estate car. The additional space and luggage capacity turned the XJ-S into a very comfortable grand tourer capable of carrying you and all of your luggage across Europe at high speed.
This is one of the five cars thought to be lost and is conversion number 11. Having spent most of the last 8 years in a garage under a cover it’s now ready to be used again. An extensive history verifies the low 47k mileage.
Inside the car is finished in black leather and comes with factory air conditioning, the original Pioneer radio / cassette player and power windows and mirrors. The glass even carries the correct Lynx Eventer factory etching.
Even though the car is presented in excellent condition, the brakes were binding so the new owner would have needed a trailer.
