Over 30 Cars Now Confirmed For The Gulf Historic Dubai GP Revival

The upcoming Dubai Gulf Historic GP Revival has seen an impressive lineup already with over 30 cars already confirmed to attend. The event scheduled for the 25th to the 27th November 2022 is shaping up to be a large event with many international entries.

Thse include the Porsche 962, Aston Martin DB9, Ferrari 643 and the Shadow DN3. Last year’s event winner, the Ex James Hunt Hesketh 308b will also return along with F1 cars from the 70s, 80s and 90s with Group C racers taking part too.

There will be around 100 cars expected for this year with a range of drivers from F1, Sports cars, Le Mans and the Dakar Rally. The younges car is only 12 years old, whereas the oldest is 52.

1986 Rothmans Porsche 962

The Rothmans Porsche 962 is an icon and is a very successful racer. This particular car in 1987 Norisring ‘Money Race’ making it the first privately owned Group C car to win a race that season and was driven by Mauri Abldi and Jonathan Palmer. Later the same year Palmer set a new sportscar lap record at Spa-Francorchamps and Jochen Mass won the Kyalami 500 exhibition race with it.

The Porsche 962 replaced the also highly successful 956 and won many races including Le Mans with Derek Bell, Hans-Joachim Stuck and Al Holbert. Porsche were also victorious at the Road America 500 miles and the Spa 1000 km to name some of them.

1974 Hesketh 308b

The 1975 Hesketh 308b wasn’t just the winner of the festival in 2021 it is the first car that James Hunt won a Formula 1 race with. Hunt drove this very car to victory at the Dutch grand Prix at Zandvoort and he secured a second place in Argentina.

Hesketh managed to get fourth place in the constructors’ championship before going out of business.

1981 Williams FW07C

The Williams FW07C is one of the cars from the 1981 season where Williams won the Formula One constructor’s championship. Designed by Patrick Head and driven by Alan Jones and Carlos Reutemann, the Cosworth DFV powered machine picked up four wins that season, two in the USA, one in Argentina and the other in Belgium.

1992 Benetton B192

The Benetton B192 is a significant car as it was the first car that Michael Schumacher drove to a Formula One victory. With teammate Martin Brundle Benetton would get third place in the constructor’s championship with a total of 11 podiums.

Ross Brawn headed up the design along with Rory Byrne, Frank Dernie and Pat Symon, this is a special car in Formula One history and is a welcome addition to the grid.

1991 Ferrari 643

The 1991 season saw Ferrari bring out the 643 with four time world champion Alain Prost and Jean Alesi at the wheel. The 700 bhp V12 screamed its way to six podiums, a second place in France and third at Monza.

This particular 643 is the ex Prost car. Prost would be a four time F1 champion and held the record for the highest number of grand Prix victories until Michael Schumacher beat it in 2001.

2007 Maserati MC12 GT1

A relatively new car the Mc12, but it’s still 15 years old. The six litre V12 engined GT was driven to victory in the FIA GT Championship four times between 2005 and 2009 and is an important car in recent Maserati history.

The Frank Stephens design signalled the return to motor racing for the marque after a gap of 37 years.

2007 Pescarolo 01-05 LMP1

The first of the sports prototypes built by the French racing team of Pescarolo. The 01 was designed for Le Mans and at the 2007 event achieved third place with Emmanuel Collard, Jean-Christophe Bouillon and Romain Dumas at the wheel. Further success with podiums at the Nürburgring 1000 km and Spa 1000 km.

 

2006 Aston Martin DBR9 007

The race car version of the DB9, the DBR9, is a stripped down version said to weigh a ton less and have over 300 hp more.

Pride of place is being given to the car at the Dubai Autodrome, which is carrying the 007 number to pay homage to the James Bond association with Aston Martin.

The sister car to this, 009, won two classes of GT1 at the Le Mans 24 Hours with the Factory Aston Martin team.

1974 Shadow DN3

The blacked out shadow DN3 is coking to race in the 1970s category of F1 cars. The DFV Cosworth powered car is iconic with its matte black livery.

Driven by Jean-Pierre Jarier, it made it to two podiums, one at the 1974 Monaco Grand Prix and the International Trophy at Silverstone the same year.

The Gulf historic festival takes place at the Dubai Autodrome, which is a world championship FIA GT circuit, European Touring Car, A1 Grand Prix and GP2 Asia host too.

This has the makings of a great event, weather should be good too.
