One Of A Kind Coach built 1995 Alfa Romeo 75 Based Castagna Vittoria
Car & Classic have turned up another fantastic car, the 1995 Alfa Romeo Castagna Vittoria.
Currently live at auction, the coach built one off is something of a masterpiece. The basis of an Alfa 75 was used to create what must be considered an Italian Classic. The creation is one from renowned coach builders, Carrozzeria Castagna. Founded in 1849 in Milan, Carrozzeria Castagna became famous for their work trimming the Orient Express and later some radical and clever vehicles such as the ALFA Aerodynamica.
The company collapsed into bankruptcy in 1954 but were revivied in 1995 and marked their return with the unveiling of the Castagna Vittoria at the 1995 Geneva Motor Show. While based on the Alfa Romeo 75, it draws more inspiration from the striking SZ. The design features a distinctive overhanging nose, an iconic Trilobo-motif grille, a modern ‘c-line’ around the windows reminiscent of 21st-century Bugattis, and a unique Kamm tail at the rear. Unlike typical concept cars, the Castagna Vittoria is not just a showpiece – it’s a fully functional and high-performing vehicle.
Numbered and stamped as ‘Car 0001,’ this Alfa Romeo comes with comprehensive identification and restoration paperwork, the original manual of the base car, and even an ABC miniature presented on a display plaque. Having made appearances at prestigious events such as the 1995 Mille Miglia, ‘The Uniques’ in 2010, and the 2012 Essen ‘Techno Classica,’ where it won the Youngtimer Award, the Castagna Vittoria spent many years in storage, covering only 2,500km from new. Its low mileage and meticulous upkeep have kept the Alfa Romeo in excellent mechanical condition.
Coachbuilding, once a standard practice in automotive construction, is now a reserved art, primarily for low-volume and high-end vehicles. The Castagna Vittoria exemplifies this craftsmanship with its entirely rebuilt, re-bodied, and retrimmed Alfa Romeo 75. Hand-hammered aluminum body panels grace the steel frame, while the interior receives a makeover with dark green leather, sporty Alcantara, and carved wooden trim elements featuring Vittoria branding.
The Castagna Vittoria has been showcased at the Car & Classic stand at Milano Autoclassica in Milan, Italy, from 17 to 19 November, providing enthusiasts and potential bidders an up-close look at one of the rarest Alfa Romeos in existence.
Dale Vinten, Car & Classic’s head of editorial, expresses the admiration for Alfa Romeo and highlights the exclusivity of the Castagna Vittoria, describing it as a splendid homage to a more daring and bespoke era of car design.
The auction of the 1995 Alfa Romeo Castagna Vittoria by Car & Classic is scheduled from 15 to 22 November, with an estimated auction price ranging between £125k and £135k. This unique vehicle stands as a symbol of Alfa Romeo’s allure and represents a bygone era of personalized and artistic car design.
Under the hood, it boasts Alfa Romeo’s beloved 3.0-liter ‘Busso’ V6 engine, delivering 255hp at 5740rpm and paired with a five-speed manual transmission. The suspension has been upgraded with Koni coaxial shock absorbers and independent coil springs at the front. The addition of new Brembo 6-piston self-ventilating disc brakes underscores its status as a serious driver’s car, a rarity among concept cars known for their lack of power.
Car & Classic’s auction of the 1995 Alfa Romeo Castagna Vittoria runs from 15 – 22 November and is expected to fetch between £125k and £135k.
