Racing in the Dark: How the Bentley Boys Conquered Le Mans

W.O Bently set out to dominate Le Mans in 1927. The three cars led from the start, but went missing in the dark of night. Failing to finish two years running.

It didn’t stop him, but the shareholders weren’t happy. 1928 was the year they got it right.

Peter Grimsdale tells the tale of how that determination really put British motor racing on the map.

Book Reviews

Porsche 928

In 1977 Porsche launched what they thought would be the replacement of the 911. Little did they know that the enthusiast would keep the 911 alive whilst the 928 disappeared.

But the 928 is an intriguing car and David Hemmings takes the 1977 car of the year winner through its entire production life including all special editions. Servicing information and parts are also covered, so useful if you want to own one, which of course I do.

Ford Cars: Ford UK cars 1945-1995 - A Pictorial History

Another new release that could prove useful. Having trouble identifying all those Fords? I could make use of it for sure.

David Rowe has turned his attention to the blue oval for its UK car production and given a thorough going through.

Expensive, but likely to be worth it.

Humber Cars: The Post-war Years

Stephen Lewis has written about one of those wonderful old British Marques, Humber. The company was long gone before I was born, but there’s something about these cars. Elegant with enough of the wood and leather that you’d associate with a classy British car of the time.

The post war era of Humber ended in 1976 which is a shame. Read about some of the fire vehicles as the Hawk and Super Snipe and the end of the company.
