Lotus Turbo Esprit - James Bond, For Your Eyes Only
I love this Lotus Esprit, it’s my favourite of all the Bond cars, I think. The Lotus Turbo Esprit in the film was stunning and this perfect replica really looked the part. Even the skis were real, unlike the studio version.
I think one of the reasons I like this car so much is that I’ve been in the original many years ago. The colour is stunning, and it was painted like this as the white one wasn’t going to work well in the snow.
Two cars were produced, one was a colour swatch sent for approval which lived on as a Lotus development vehicle in Hethel, Norfolk. It came up for sale a few years ago and I wish I had bought it.
Porsche 911 930 Martini
Porsche again are very well represented and the stand with the individual dealers presenting their restorations is always a nice touch.
I rather liked this 930 911 Martini edition. A simple colour scheme that looks so good. The car was beautifully restored too.
1993 Vauxhall Nova GSi
The Vauxhall Nova was a common sight on UK roads, the GSi less so, but I haven’t seen one this good. A late example from 1993 this perfect example was probably better than new.
Sunbeam Talbot 3 Litre Sports Saloon
The owner of this stunning car spent rather a lot on the restoration. I’m not going to share how much, but the Sunbeam Talbot Sports Saloon is a very rare car with only 3 recorded as registered in the UK. There might be more projects hiding away of course.
To get a car to this standard takes a lot of time and money, but the car is a beautiful looking example of a late 30s saloon to base such a restoration on. The colour is not original, but really suits it. Must be my car of the show, maybe one of them, there’s another.
Lotus Esprit - James Bond The Spy Who loved Me
Two James Bond Lotus Esprit replicas in one show. And another of my favourite Bond cars. This perfect replica even included the retrimmed headrests that clashed with Roger Moore’s complexion whilst filming.
The eagle eyed among you will spot Phil Bell of Classic Cars chatting at the desk of the Practical Classics stand. Moonlighting perhaps?
Jaguar XJS Lynx Eventer
It’s the back of the Lynx Eventer that stands out, seeing as the front is a regular XJS. Adding a hatch tailgate to the XJS made it a really practical and attractive car. 3 door estates are cool anyway, but I’ve always thought the eventer looked really good, even better than the original.
Recognise the MkIII Ford Escort tailgate? Early cars had their hinges on the outside. But it wasn’t just the tail that was modified. The roofline extended of course, but the rear seats were moved back, the fuel tanks moved and more.
GAZ M20 Pobeda
This GAZ M20 Pobeda has been restored to an incredibly high standard and really stood out. the choice of colour suited the car and it contrasted nicely with the whitewall tyres and the yellow dash.
A specialist restoration done in Latvia and for sale with Classic investments of London. One of my cars of the show, please buy it before I do…
VW Bee Beetle
I don’t normally like cut up cars, but this is really rather cute. This was extremely well executed and cleverly done to reduce the word Beetle. The beetle was never the most practical car, this even less so. I really like it.
If that wasn’t your thing the short Golf behind might take your fancy. I would like a go to see what they’re like.
Mini Moke - The Prisoner
Finally I knew this was going to be here and it was great to see it. Being a fan of the TV series, I had to get a closer look. It’s a very nice looking restoration too.
