Ex Colin McRae Subaru Impreza P2 WRC, S5 WRC Rally Car For Sale
P2 WRC is a legendary Subaru Impreza S5 being an ex-Colin McRae WRC car. Though it has an interesting history.
The original P2 WRC number was assigned to chassis number 3 and was a works Subaru entry into the Monte Carlo Rally in 1997. Driven by McRae and his co-driver Nicky Grist in the event where Colin had an accident and failed to finish.
This resulted in a re-shelling of the car and the number was then transferred to chassis 21, a Prodrive chassis, and later privately campaigned in Europe in 1998 to 2000 with a number of wins, including the Hungarian Championship in 1998 and 1999.
Competition cars are re-shelled all the time and this car is no exception, but it still retains all the correct provenance.
Harry Whale of Silverstone Auctions, comments: “‘P2 WRC’ represents a fascinating piece of rallying history and we’re honoured here at Silverstone Auctions to be asked to offer it to the open market.”
The car moved from continental Europe to the UK with Mark Slater and Steven Fleck during 2001 and 2002 to enter a few events before being entered into competition again with Noel Redmond.
The current owner bought P2 WRC in 2004 and has owned it ever since, using the car as it was intended in several rallies throughout 2005, 2006 and 2007, placing well against some much newer machinery.
Since then the car was stored until 2015 when it was decided to recommission it and use it for shows and events, the owner’s son doing most of the driving.
The car was run at the Wethersfield Stages Rally, achieving 1st overall in both 2016 and 2017. More recently it appeared at Race Retro in 2020.
Autosportif have rebuilt the engine and gearbox as little as a few hundred miles ago and it was professionally converted to right hand drive by Stan Harper to tackle the Irish stages before the current owner bought the car. For the last seven years it has been prepared by Edward at EJM Preparations.
The car could in theory convert the car back to left hand drive if desired.
The Impreza WRC car was competitive when new and still competes well against much newer machines, showing how well developed the car was and how ahead of the time it was.
The car could be bought and taken to shows and events as it is now, or with minimal work, be put back into stage use, or converted back to the original specification. The car is a significant piece of motorsport history and driven by the legendary Colin McRae.
The 2 door Impreza is one of the WRC’s best all time cars, backed by one of the best teams of all time and being driven by the best drivers.
Harry Whale adds: “P2 WRC is a well-known 2-door Subaru WRC car and very desirable in its own right. It has certainly lived a busy and fascinating life and in our opinion is all the better for it. It’s been well cared-for in private ownership for almost 20 years and combined with its links to the great Colin McRae, this really is a very rare opportunity to continue the fascinating story of P2 WRC.”
Yours for £379,500 as surporsingly the car didn’t sell at the acution. Contact [email protected] if you want the chance to own it.
