BMW Art Cars Exhibition In Augmented Reality App

1975 BMW 3.0 CSL Art Car By Alexander Calder

BMW has something rather unusual, the Art Car exhibition through a mobile app.

BMW are celebrating 50 years of cultural commitment and are joining forces with Acute Art to create a unique exhibition. For the first time the BMW Art Car Collection is going to be shown in augmented reality, AR.

On July 21st the project launches on the free Acute Art app. This makes the Art Cars into digital rolling sculptures available everywhere around the world at the same time.

French racing driver Hervé Poulain started the Art Cars when he worked with BMW Motorsport’s Jochen Neerpasch when they both asked Alexander Calder to design Poulain’s BMW race car in 1975.

Since that first car 19 artists have turned their hands to examples of BMWs road and racing cars.

Now the collection can be viewed in any setting the user chooses, indoors and outdoors in 360 degrees.
