Bahrain Bike Week Classic Car Show December 2024
Bahrain Bike Week is the biggest event of its kind in the Middle East and the 2024 one was no exception.
It’s not just the gathering of motorcyclists from across the region, there are many side events, ride outs and the main gathering in the Bahrain Financial Harbour which sees motorcyles and classic cars on display, oh, and plenty of noise.
The Ford Thuderbird in its third generation loos really good with the turbine style tail lights. Some 78,000 or so of this generation were built, only a little over 9,000 of them were convertibles, but the fixed head cars do look good.
I wasn’t expecting to see a Dodge Super Bee, and was very pleased that I did. The 383 may have been the base option and quite a big seller, finding one out here was a nice surpise.
The Super Bee was a very close relation to the Plymought Road Runner, sharing platforms and bodies, but the Super Bee had a slighly longer wheelbase and carried a little more weight. Only another 29kg, so nothing too substantial. Probably that interitor trim, which did look very nice.
The Pair of beutifully presented BMW E21 3 Series were also a surprise. Often hard to find back in the UK they must habe fared a little better in the hotter climate.
The subject of some extensive and high quality work, the orange one sat nicely on air suspension. The paintwork really was superb and nice and bright, typical on any good 1970s car.
Finally the Mercdes W126 560 SEC from Saudi, a really nice 1991 example with a really nice blue leather interior. The airbag steering wheel being a good clue as to the late model year. These superb, elegant cars aren’t as favoured as the saloons out here, almost contrary to the West.
Still, the owner Ahmed is on a mission to save this and others and was doing a great job.
