Over 200 Rare And Iconic Cars Feature At The 18th Annual The Quail
The annual The Qual event brings collections of some of the finest sports and racing cars in the world. The 18th edition looks set to be no exception.
Taking place on the 13 August 2021, the event showcases the top pre and post war cars around Monterey Car Week. Many unique vehicles are on display too, which is sometimes the only chance to see them.
Of course the usual luxury lifestyle things that accompany vehicles like these are also present.
“What makes The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering a truly remarkable event, aside from the extravagant setting and fine culinary offerings, is its unbeatable selection of vehicles from a variety of genres, manufacturers and time periods,” said Kai Lermen, General Manager of Quail Lodge & Golf Club. “Pre- and post-war sports and racing machines meet the newest innovations from leading manufacturers at our event. It’s a wonderland for the automotive enthusiast.”
We have a look at four of the best the show will have to offer.
1931 Duesenberg Derham Tourster
Duesenberg long being the most luxurious of American auto manufacturers is represented with this 1931 Derham tourer.
Designed by Gordon Buehring, this is one of only eight built on the Model J Chassis with seven of them still in existence.
The car retains the original body with the wooden frame chassis, the engine and all major components.
With its current owner since 2001 it has travelled across the country several times.
1978 Lamborghini LP400 Countach Periscopio
They only made 150 of the early Lamborghini LP400 Countach Periscopo models.
This one was delivered new to Monaco Motors, the official Lamborghini dealer for Monte Carlo on December 19, 1977.
In 2014 the car underwent a complete nut and bolt restoration to its present condition.
The colour is unusual, very 70s in its shade of brown and looking rather good on the angular lines of the Countach.
1967 Shelby American King Cobra Can-Am
Shelby entered the Can-Am racing series in 1967 with the King Cobra. Designed by Lyn Terry, the car had unique crossover spring suspension.
Lynn also designed many great vehicles for Lotus Cars.
1937 Bugatti 57S Gangloff
This1937 Bugatti 57S was built for its first owner the Frenchman Andre Cheuvenet. The car of course has spent most of its life in Europe.
Having been restored to the original configuration, it is the ultimate in pre-war supercars. The 200 hp supercharged engine combined with striking aerodynamic styling.
Very rare and beautiful.
The event takes place as an outdoor garden party at the Quail Lodge & Golf Club, Carmel, California. With five gourmet culinary pavilions, award winning win vendors and the Fireside chat series giving attendees the chance to hear from motorsport legends and the industry discussing the future of racing and car collecting.
Included with the entrance is the opportunity to attend the Bonhams Quail Lodge Auction which takes place at the event.
