Classic Car Makes – Lamborghini

Lamborghini are a well known small manufacturer from Sant’Agata in Italy known for making exotic and sometimes outrageous supercars.

But they started out making tractors. The owner Ferruccio Lamborghini was determined to make a new luxury supercar. Legend has it that is was a rebuttle to Enzo Ferrari after Lamborghini complained about one of his cars gearboxes. He bought a large plot of land in 1963 in the town of Sant’Agata Bolognese in the province of Bologna. He gave his name to the company, the bull coming from his astrological star sign Taurus.

The first 350 GTV prototype was developed quickly to appear at the Turin auto show in 1963 and came with a Bizzarini designed V12 engine in the front. The first production car, the 350 GT, being built in 1964. It was only two years later that they would produce their first mid mounted road car, the Miura. Quite an achievement for such a young car manufacturer.

Lamborghini has a historic specialist arm known as Lamborghini Polo Storico. This department was opened in 2015 to preserve the heritage of the company. They restore and certify all Lamborghini classic cars build up to 2001 and they also make spare parts and curate the archive.
