Something For The Weekend? How About A New Peugeot 205 GTI?
Would you like a new Peugeot 205 GTI 1.9? Well, Peugeot might just have the thing for you. Ok, it’s not actually new, but some of the parts are. This one is being restored at the Musée de l’Aventure Peugeot in Sochaux.
Heritage is big business. Just look at the growth in classic car values over the years and the number of visitors to shows and events. There have been more and more TV shows over the world about them. Manufacturers have even been producing new old models, like Jaguar and Aston Martin and restoring them for years too. So, it seems natural that a volume manufacturer would be getting in on the act.
But the PSA group is a pretty large manufacturer. And it would be unfair to say they are jumping on a bandwagon. They have been doing great things to support their heritage for years. Go and see their own collections or those they put out at shows like Retromobile for example.
The Aventure Peugeot association has begun the restoration of the 205 GTI as something new to offer customers. Restoring and selling vehicles isn’t something you’d expect a manufacturer to do. Imagine going into a dealership and finding new cars from 30 years ago amongst the modern offerings. I bet I know which ones will be getting all the attention.
Importantly this could mean that anything from the range could become available. All the work is being done at the workshops at the Musée de l’Aventure Peugeot in Sochaux. Each car will receive a certificate of authenticity at the end of the restoration before being put on sale.
It makes sense to pick an iconic car for the first. The black Peugeot 205 GTI, with the 1.9L engine has been picked to make as good as new. This team at the Aventure Peugeot workshops will highlight the talent and know-how of the specialists needed. There are several trades essential for a quality restoration. Mechanics, shapers, saddlers and sheet metal workers.
From 2021 the association’s platform, www.laventurepeugeotcitroends.fr, will have a space dedicated to quality restored vehicles. These will have the stamp “Par l’Aventure PEUGEOT”. Private vehicles will also be made available on this space once they have received the “quality” label.
Good luck Peugeot, I hope this is a great success and thanks for the images.
