Unique Lister Maserati Sells At Bonhams Goodwood Members Meeting Sale

A unique Lister Maserati sells at Bonhams Goodwood Members meeting private sale for £575,000.

Bonhams have responded to the UK government’s closure of certain businesses to the public. Bonhams have moved all auction lots to a private sale format and it looks to have been a success. Over the sale weekend of 28 & 29th march 2020, there were some high profile cars finding their way to new owners.

Star of the sale is the one off ex Archie Scott Brown 1956 2 litre Lister Maserati. Famously campaigned by the original ‘King of Drift’ to three wins and two second places. Archie, who born with only one hand and deformed legs, was certianly a hero in the eyes of the British public. The Scottish born driver was able to take the wheel of the Lister Maserati and impress the legendary Juan Manuel Fangio.

The car wasn’t totally reliable in it’s first season, but Archie had proven it’s capabilities and his. Presented in superb condition and with recent reliable performances in the Le Mans Classic, Monaco Historique and Goodwood Revival meetings.

Of the other successes over the weekend included another 1950s Lister. The Jaguar powered 1958 3.8 Litre Knobbly, recent winner of the 2018 Stirling Moss Trophy.

A 1937 Lagonda LG45 4½-litre Fox & Nicholl 1936 Le Mans Team Car Replica. Also campaigned extensively and has been seen at the Le Mans Classic.

Moving to road cars and this beautiful 1971 Ferrari 365 GTB/4 ‘Daytona’ Spyder conversion by Autokraft stands out. Arguably the best of the conversions to the coupe. This particular car was delivered new in the UK in RHD and comes with a complete history including the factory build sheets.

Bonhams adapted quickly to changing conditions and delivered a successful sale, I hope to be attending the next one.
