Lot number 125 was the star of the auction and the highest bid on the day. Coming with an extensive history file, many receipts, related paperwork and the important provenance.
It is also a very sought after pre Alpine Grand Sport frame and is thought to be one of only 20 surviving examples. The bike has been fitted with a 1925 ex Brough Superior KTOR JAP OHV engine.
It was even the 2011 Baragwanath Cup winner for best SS100 JAP at the Brough Superior Club Annual Rally.
1926/32 Brough Superior 5/15 Lot 32
There were three other Brough lots that went under the hammer. Lot 32, a 1926/32 Brough Superior 5/15 failed to make its lower estimate of £35,000 and is currently under offer. This bike is based around a JAP 680cc side-valve V-Twin engine that was originally fitted to a 1926 Brough Superior.
The frame is a reproduction of one for a 5/15 frame hand-built by Brough Superior Owners’ Club Technical Advisor and marque restorer Dave Clark. Subsequently issued with a period 1932 identity for a 680 Brough Superior.
1936 Brough Superior SS80 Lot 55
Lot 55, the first of the 1936 Brough Superior SS80 sold for £55,200. This sprung Bentley & Draper frame machine will need some recommissioning before returning to the road.
Even though it was an older restoration, it had all the correct frame and engine numbers and had been in the UK from new. An extensive history file with the works build sheet was included.
1936 Brough Superior SS80 Lot 72
Lot 72 is another Sprung Bentley & Draper framed 1936 Brough Superior SS80. This one has all the correct numbers and came with a large history file. This bike didn’t sell at the auction but is currently under offer.
Lastly, if three wheels are your thing, a 1929 Morgan Super Aero. These half car half bike contraptions are typically British. Fantastic little things and rather valuable if not necessarily useful. Seeing as a new one can be pretty expensive, this one at £57,500 might be good value. After all it’s getting close to 100 years old.
