Bristol Cars Officially Dissolved

Bristol Cars have been officially dissolved. It’s sad when a car manufacturer disappears, especially one with such a long history. Bristol Cars were formed out of the Bristol Tramways Company and the Bristol Aeroplace Company. Sir George White Bt formed the company in 1874, when it started to make horse drawn rail trams in cities and were the developers of the original electified tram system only 24 years later.

Famous aeroplanes came from Bristol with memorable names such as Blenheim, Bolingbroke, Beaufighter, Buckingham, Brigand and Buckmaster. But also famous aero engines, Jupiter, Mercury and the Pegasus. This now forms part of Rolls-Royce Aero Engines and still in Bristol.

The car company moved to its current base in Windlesham, Surrey.

Bristol revealed a completely new model, the Bullet back in 2016 but has struggled to get the car to production. Bristol’s previous model, the Fighter was introduced in 2014. Whilst it was well received it sold only nine examples, the difficulties with running a very small car manufacturer had carried on to the Bullet. There simply isn’t the money to design, develop and produce a new vehicle.

News update (Ed); Extensive Assets Associated With Bristol Cars Ltd & Bristol Cars Services Ltd Are To Go On Sale

Bristol previously went into administration in 2011 with 22 jobs lost at the factory in Filton near Bristol. Seventy Five Years of history of the car compay has now come to an end with Compaines House advising that the companies assets being sold to pay the creditors. The owners club are thankfullly involved to salvage as much heritage and knowledge of this quintessentially British marque. It’s a great loss to the automotive world of such a distinctive small volume bespoke manufacterer.
