Silverstone Auctions Classic Car Live Sale - May 23 2020 Sale Results
The results of the Silverstone Auctions first live classic car sale on May 23 2020 are in. Some 89% of lots were sold making £4.64 million ($5.69 million).
Showing that there is good health in the classic car market, even in a period of global inactivity. The amount of sales was very high at 89% and is a testament to the quality and rarity of what was on offer.
Here are the highlights of the day.
Lot No. 101 - 1952 Jowett Bradford Utility De Luxe
Lot No. 102 - 1982 Rolls-Royce Silver Spirit
With only 30,000 miles this was problable a really good purchase. A really cheap one isn’t a good idea, but this is not expensive. Though it needs recommissioning before use it looked to be worth the price
Sold for: £10,450
Lot No. 103 - 1964 Citroen ID19 Safari
Lot No. 104 - 1959 Borgward Isabella Coupe
Pretty Borgward Coupe, not something you see very often. It is an older restoration but still in very good condition.

Lot No. 105 - 1971 Rolls-Royce Corniche
Lot No. 106 - 1958 Borgward Isabella TS Saloon

Lot No. 108 - 1976 Ford Granada Coupe 3000 XL
Not something available in the UK, so this rare, manual gearbox, right-hand drive, 3-litre Coupe has come from South Africa. I think they’d have soled well if they had offered it here.
Sold for: £7,040
Lot No. 109 - 1959 Borgward Isabella Combi
Rarer than the saloons this original, low mileage Combi estate was in decent condition all round.
Sold for: £7,150
Lot No. 110 - 1983 Polski Fiat 126
Fantastic little Polish Fiat 126P. In the best colour, orange, these are great fun and cheap to own. Low mileage with only 31,472 miles indicated and in really nice condition.
Sold for: £3,740
Lot No. 111 - 1948 Peugeot 202 Canadienne Camionette Boisée
A very rare example of the 202 Canadienne, or woody if you prefer, estate car variant. Early cars like this seem to be inexpensive compared to some later vehicles. I love the style of these Peugeots.
Sold for: £6,820
Lot No. 112 - 1967 Citroen Ami 6
This left-hand drive, French home-market 3CV in need of restoration made strong money. Original and solid this would make a really nice car.

Lovely old British estate car was actually an ex-RAF Staff Car that hasn’t seen active service for a while. Really quite lovley.
Sold for: £3,960
Lot No. 114 - 1950 Austin A90 Atlantic Convertible
Italian influenced and rather futuristic for the 1950s, this Austin Convertible was aimed at the American market but still sold here in the UK. Quite different to the usual restrained offerings.
Sold for: £25,300
Lot No. 115 - 1952 Austin A90 Atlantic Sports Saloon
Selling for around half that of the convertible, this handsome fixed head two door certainly isn’t half the car. Even though it was needing a bit of a freshen up it looks great value.
Sold for: £13,640
Lot No. 116 - 1962 Jaguar D-Type 'Short Nose' Recreation
This recreation wasn’t like many others. A tool-room copy built to the highest of standards, using some original and now unobtainable parts. This was far cheaper than a genuine D Type, which would command £1.5m+. This one would provide the same experience and canand comes with some FIA papers.
Sold for: £390,500
Lot No. 117 - 1971 Porsche 911 2.7-Litre RS recreation
A superb recreation of the Porsche’s legendary 2.7RS based on a 1971 ‘D’ Series 911E. Much cheaper than the real thing. The price probably doesn’t represent the investment required to build another.

Sold for: £101,750
Lot No. 120 - 1965 Ford Cortina Lotus
Rare, Ford of Dagenham-built, early airflow car that has remained mostly original. About the right price for an average one this seems better value that the guides suggest.

Lot No. 122 - 1973 Jaguar E-Type Series 3 V12
One of two series 3 E Types making good money. Quite possibly one of the best avaiable, the condition was stunning.
Sold for: £90,200
Lot No. 123 - 2004 Mercedes-Benz SL65 AMG (R230)
These were rare when new, built in far fewer numbers than the SL55. With 604 bhp from the 6-litre V12 this made these extremely rapid. This example has only 13,600 miles on it and is in the fantastic purple colour.
Sold for: £61,600
Lot No. 124 - 2015 Land Rover Defender 110 SVX 'Spectre' JB24
Another instant classic, 1 of only 7 remaining original “Spectre” Defenders used in the James Bond film. Any surviving bond car has already attained legendary status.

Lot No. 125 - 2006 Mercedes-Benz SL55 AMG (R230)

Rare V12 engined manual gearbox car with a complete service history from new. This looks really good value as they didn’t make many of them.
Sold for: £24,200

Incedibly low mileage of 10,500 would go some way to explain hte price. This was a UK supplied automatic with only one registered keeper from new.
Sold for: £159,500

Lot No. 146 - 1968 Ford GT40
This caught my eye as it seemed a cheaper way to get into a GT40/ Created as an homage to #1005 and #1073 by Terry Drury who raced them in period. Built out of a comprehensive amount of spares he acquired. This included the early fuel crossover type monocoque. Also the correct 302ci engine and ZF Le Mans gearbox.
It cannot get any closer than that. Even though a recently completed build this is still a 1968 car. It’s what i’d have tken homw had the funds been there.
Sold for: £338,000
Lot No. 147 - 1974 Jaguar E-Type Series 3 Roadster
The second of the two Series 3 E Types and with only 35,000 mile. The car was in fabulous condition too. Someone was prepared to part with over £100k for.
