Mercedes-Benz W124 series – 1984-1997

This a serious book, written with the co-operation of the factory you aren’t going to get a better resource about the W124 series Mercedes.

The W124 was quite a long running model, the two facelifts lasting 13 years before being replaced. The W124 is one of the best Mercedes ever made, making for a good modern classic.

The book covers all major markets with a wealth of contemporary photographs and Mercedes images.

It’s not a cheap book but considering the amount of information inside it is worth it.

Available from Veloce books and of course Amazon.

Back to the Future: Delorean Time Machine: Doc Brown's Owner's Workshop Manual (Haynes Manual)

Just the thing for Christmas, still seems too early to say that.
Doc Browns’ DeLorean time machine is explained in detail with schematics, cutaways in the Haynes Owner’s Manual style.

The secrets of the original and the flying version are uncovered, with the inner workings of the Flux Capacitor and Mr Fusion explained.

Lots of illustrations and information, which will come in handy if you can get one. Set the time clock to 1984 and it will be great. Just don’t set it to 2020 or 2021…

The Ultimate Classic Car Quiz Book (The Ultimate Classic Car Quiz Books)

This actually looks like fun. A little book packed with facts, trivia and statistics. Oh and of course, all the answers.

The 150 multiple choice questions have stories behind them, so you’ll know what car was mentioned in a National Security memo to President Jimmy Carter or which Hollywood movie star appeared in a round of the British Saloon Car Championship.

Author David Milloy will even donate 25% of the royalties to charity too. There’s no excuse not to buy it now, it’s cheap too.

Britain’s Toy Car Wars: The War of Wheels Between Dinky, Corgi and Matchbox

I want this book. I grew up on a diet of 1980s Matchbox cars and I still love them. But they weren’t the only miniature car manufacturer in the UK all those years ago. Dinky and Corgi were the competition and even though Dinky had gone by the time I was old enough to understand, I had seen and experienced some.

A fifty year tale of the best toy cars in the world. Dinky from the 1930s, to the 1950s cheaper Matchbox offerings and then Corgi with their movie tie ins. Giles Chapman explores the battle to produce the most desirable cars each year, with the disasters and associated drama.

The Galloping Sausage and Other Train Curiosities: 150 Steam Railway Events and Stories

It’s funny, but I was feeling hungry when I came across this, so maybe that’s why it appeals. Railway history is interesting anyway, so I don’t mind including it. I’d have a train if I could.

Anyway, the formative years of Britain’s railways produced some very strange things. Some of the weird schemes, designs and odd behaviours set the scene for the future. As more regulations were brought in this led to a more common sense approach. Though the weather, we still have that problem, and the complex nature of running a railway produced a range of incidents and unusual equipment.

Over 150 snippets, stories and strange facts, looks entertaining.
